Here are some examples of the programs we conduct or consider as we plan our Council Program agenda each year . . .
If you have an interest in supporting such activities for our parish or community, please join us in these projects, or bring your new ideas to the table.
Community
Blue Mass - We are considering having a Blue Mass on 9/11 to honor the people who serve or protect our community, such as police, fire fighters, emergency responce teams, scouts, etc. Mass would be followed by light refreshmants, perhaps coffee and doughnuts, etc.
Adopt-a-Highway - Other community projects we have considred are Adopt-a-Highway.
Church
St. Paddy Party & Columbus Day Party - We usually have two fundraiser parties for the adults each year, to provide an opportunity for our parishionrs to socialize together, and we donate part of the proceeds to our church and school, and to other parish ministries and programs, such as CYO, golf outing, etc. It usually includes live music for dancing, a buffet dinner and refreshments.
Keep Christ in Christmas - Another project we conduct is a "Keep Christ in Christmas" campaign, selling Keep Christ in Christmas magnets for display during the Christmas season.
Communion Breakfast - Occasionally we conduct a Communion Breakfast, the last was held at The Maenner-Chor Club in Norristown.
Sisters Christmas Dinner - We conduct an annual Christmas Party for our Sisters at SFA. It takes place at various restaurants or Country Clubs in the area. This gives us an opportunity to express our gratitude to our Sisters for their dedication and hard work for our Parish and School.
Ministry Support - Our members participate in or otherwise support other Parish ministries or programs, such as the annual Carnival, the annual Feast, the Golf Outing, the CYO, school fundraisers, etc.
Youth
Hoop Shoot - We planned a hoop shoot at our school, and hope to conduct more such activities if we can get a CYO coach or two to join our Council.
Scouting - We suport our local boy scout troop and some members serve as Scoutmasters and actively engage our youth, both SFA and children from the local community, in scouting activities.
Special Olympics - We support the Special Olympics, and some members participate in fundraising and/or coaching Special Olympics teams.
Altar Server Awards - We honor the Altar Servers of our Parish annually with Certificates of Appreciation for their dedication and daily service to our Church.
Student Awards - We honor two top SFA students annually, an eighth grade boy and girl, with a U.S. Savings Bond and a high end calculator, not only for their academic achievement, but their service to the Church, their school and community.
Other considerations proposed are:
- Essay Contests
- Soccer Challenge
- Free Throw Championship
- Substance Abuse Poster Contest
- Establishment of a Columbian Squires Council
Scholarship Program/COLE - We conduct an annual COLE fundraiser, i.e. Chance Of A Lifetime. This State-wide program funds the K of C Scholarship Program. We are asking each Brother to sell between 2 and 5 books at a minimum - more if you can. Tickets are $1 each, or a book of 8 for $7. Prize details and COAL tickets are available from Jim Cahill.
Family
Pro-Life Events - We have a Pro-Life & Family Director, a pro-life couple, to guide us in participation and/or support of pro-life and family activities.
Annual Family Picnic - We conduct an annual family picnic at a member's house, so our members' families can become better acquainted in a relaxed setting. We invite our Pastor, our Sisters, and prospective members' families as well.
Annual Feast - We also assist with the annual Feast of Saint Francis, or a pasta dinner for families.
Council
Football Sweeps - We conduct an annual Football Sweeps fundraiser - the PA Knights Football Frenzy Sweeps program. Each ticket sells for $10 and enters the buyer in one contest each week for the last 10 weeks of the NFL regular season. There are 25 winners each week. The odds of having a winning ticket is about 1 out of every 67 sold. The more tickets we sell, the more of the money comes back to our Council to support our charities.
Our Council Charity Fund - The proceeds from the annual Football Sweeps fundraiser supports our charity fund, which enables us to donate to many parish and community charities. We contribute to . . .
- Our St. Francis of Assisi Church/Parish, School & CYO
- Our State of PA Council and National K of C Council
- Our local Assemby and K of C Chapter
- Our Community and other charitable organizations, e.g.
- Veterans Hospitals
- Childrens Hospitals
- Homeless Shelters
- Soup Kitchens
- Battered Women Shelters
- Old Age Nursing Homes
- Childrens Cancer Programs
- Special Olympics, etc.
Our State Council Charities - This football sweeps program also supports the efforts of our State K of C organization as well, such as the college level Education Foundation.
Our National Council Charities - Our Supreme Council also supports many International Charities - you may Donate Online.
